Stone Enjoy By IPA – 02.14.17 Coffee & Chocolate | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

It’s not unusual to see pronouncements of “I Heart Hops,” “I Heart Chocolate” or “I Heart Coffee” throughout #socialmedia, printed on T-shirts and, natch, emblazoned on coffee cups. Over the past couple of decades we have helped add “I Freaking Heart IPAs” to that lexicon. Today, passionate people can’t imagine a world without all of the above. For this special edition, we added chocolate and coffee to make this devastatingly fresh IPA even more seductive to the palate. We humbly suggest that you use this libation to proclaim your love for someone… and we suggest that someone be you. Loving yourself is exactly what this libation is all about. Love now; remember forever. Read More »

Trillium SIGTEBRØD DOUBLE DRY HOPPED IPA (Best Trillium Beer!?) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Inspired by traditional Danish wheat bread, this beer incorporates stone ground whole wheat flour in the mash to create a rustic, bready character. For layered complexity, we added tangerine peel and raw wildflower honey into the whirlpool followed by a double dry hop of Citra/Amarillo. Candied orange, lemon and freshly baked bread permeate the nose. Flavors of tangerine peel, grape and rustic bread emerge on the palate, rounded out by a crisp and balanced finish. Read More »

Stone 20th Anniversary Encore Series: 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA | Beer Geek Nation

For our 14th Anniversary Ale, we traced our inspiration to British IPAs of the 1800s, creating an imperial, nay, Emperial IPA using all-British hops, malt and yeast. We even adjusted our Southwest U.S. water to summon that ageless IPA chemistry and royal sense of place. Cheers to an Encore reign for this mighty British-by-way-of-California-West-Coast IPA. Drakes Aroma Therapy Imperial IPA (10.2% ABV) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Aroma Therapy is the double IPA partner of Aroma Coma and Prieta. The brew takes its cues from the Coma and Prieta recipes and goes bigger — more malt, hops from both New Zealand and America — and a topping of orange blossom honey, the aromatics from which subtly underpin the hops. Read More »

Stone 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

For 20 years our passion for brewing and our obsession with hops have challenged traditional styles and expectations for beer. So it’s only fitting we commemorate this momentous occasion by crafting a liquid ode to bold brewing that satisfies your hop thirst and pays homage to our flagship San Diego brewery, located on Citracado Parkway (which itself pays homage to the citrus and avocado agricultural history of the region). “Citracado” also teases the two key ingredients of this beer. “Citra” refers both to the juicy gem of a hop and its citrusy (and tropical) aromas and flavors. “Cado” inspired us to utilize wonderful, native avocado flower honey. Combine the two and the result pours like silk and abounds with enough hops to match our excitement for reaching this 20-year milestone. We thank you sincerely for the years of support and pledge that we will, ... Read More »

Tröegs Nimble Giant (Best of 2016?) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

We didn’t set out to release another double IPA, but when we tasted this hop combination, we latched on and didn’t let go. It started as an experiment with mosaic hops, and after six scratch batches it became Nimble Giant. The layers of Mosaic, Azacca, and Simcoe hops take over your senses. Mango, tropical fruit and creamsicle notes give the beer a silky, juicy underbelly that builds to a punch in the face grapefruit rind, honeysuckle and pineapple. Read More »

Stone RuinTen Triple IPA W/Orange Peel & Vanilla Bean (2016) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

This version of Stone RuinTen Triple IPA imagines orange peel and vanilla bean being caught moshing with the hardcore hop legend. Its original inspiration starts back with our decision to take the 2002 release of Stone Ruination IPA and make it into an even hoppier monstrosity in 2012 for its 10th Anniversary. Soon after its release, the nickname “RuinTen” began to circulate, and eventually stuck. No sooner did we sell out the special release that our fans began to clamor for more of this veritable hop monster, and from their noise the annual RuinTen release was born. Not being ones to not mess with a good thing, we decided to add two new ingredients to produce this modern-day mosh pit of hops: orange peel and vanilla bean. The result is a melee of flavor. Dive in, or watch from the seats. Your call. You’ll ... Read More »
