Green Flash Lustrous Frumento w/coffee (Best Green Flash Beer?) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Lustrous Frumento with Coffee is the first “micro release” bottle to debut as part of the Barrelmaster Reserve series. A 100% bourbon barrel-aged “black ale,”Lustrous Frumento with Coffee features a rich malty double stout base. It is matured in freshly emptied, hand-selected “Old Forrester” bourbon barrels, which arrive at Cellar 3 still dripping from the distillery. The beer has rested in the barrels for 30 months, gaining plenty of spicy oak, vanilla and caramel notes. After being deemed “ready” by the Barrelmaster himself, a beautiful cold brew coffee made from a blend of Brazilian and Sumatran beans from San Diego coffee roaster, Mostra, is added to intensify and compliment the rich caramel and vanilla from the barrels. Lustrous Frumento with Coffee is 13.1% ABV and packaged in a signature metallic edition of the Cellar 3 750 ml cork-finished bottles. Read More »

Green Flash Treasure Chest IPA 2015 | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Say Aloha to Treasure Chest 2015, an exotic pink IPA brewed with grapefruit, prickly pear juice and hibiscus flowers. Erupting with fruit-forward complexity, 100% Mosaic hops present aromas of heady citrus and refined stone fruit. The pleasantly bitter flavors of the hops are enhanced by the addition of fresh grapefruit juice. Offering balance to offset the bold citrus notes, prickly pear juice imparts a peppery-sweet kick in the finish. Tropical Hibiscus flowers give this beer a naturally pink hue, a nod to the official color of the Treasure Chest mission. Read More »

Green Flash Silva Stout (2015) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Silva Stout took a lot of patience. We aged our Double Stout in oak bourbon barrels for seventeen months. Flavors are very complex. It starts off with dark chocolate truffles rolled in cocoa powder. Next is the vanilla and wood notes, with rich cherry-like fruitiness. After racking and filtering the ale, we blended in just the right amount of freshly brewed Double Stout to provide the perfect balance of bourbon barrel aging and freshness. Enjoy the culmination of years of flavor development now – no further aging required! Read More »

Great Lakes Alchemy Hour Double IPA (Best of 2013?!)| Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

On the West Coast, surfers have a term for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever. They call it Alchemy Hour. In Cleveland, our surfers have to work a little harder to find a perfect swell. Dressed in wetsuits, up at dawn, they camp out on the shores of Lake Erie in near-freezing temperatures, waiting for the ultimate wave. Crazy? Yes. Extreme? Definitely. Alchemy Hour Double IPA pays tribute to the North Coast’s unlikely surf bums and the ancient quest for liquid gold, wherever it may live: on the ocean, in a lake, in a bottle. Green Flash Palate Wrecker (2013 Batch) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Palate Wrecker was originally brewed for the Hamilton’s Tavern 2nd Anniversary celebration. It’s the most complicated West Coast–inspired IPA we have ever brewed—mashing and sparging with hopped wort, in addition to our hop layering regimen for IPA. We use almost 6 lbs/bbl of Columbus and Centennial hops to create this very bitter hop monster (tested at 149 IBU and no extracts in case you were wondering). By popular demand, it is now released for the world to enjoy (even though this beer isn’t for everyone, only the real hop heads!!!). Cheers! – Chuck Silva – Brewmaster – Green Flash Brewing.
