Boulevard Brewing Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale | Beer Geek Nation Video Beer Reviews Episode 125

This is easily one of the best if not the best American brewed Saison on the market. Bright, crisp and Belgian in all the right places. Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard it’s fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy. Read More »

Avery/Russian River Collaboration Not Litigation | Beer Geek Nation Video Beer Reviews Episode 114

Salvation. The name of two intricate Belgian-style ales created by us, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Adam Avery of Avery Brewing. After becoming friends a few years ago, we realized that we both had a Salvation in our line-ups. Was it going to be a problem? Should one of us relinquish the rights? “Hell no!” we said. In fact, it was quickly decided that we should blend the brews to catch the best qualities of each and create an even more complex libation. In April 2004, in top-secret meeting at Russian River Brewing (well actually it was packed in the pub, and many were looking over our shoulders wondering what the hell was going on), we came up with the perfect blend of the two Salvations. Natalie, Vinnie’s much more significant other, exclaimed, “We should call this Collaboration, not Litigation Ale!” “Perfect!” ... Read More »

Avery Brewing The Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest | Beer Geek Nation Video Beer Reviews Episode 91

The Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest Avery Brewing 9.73% ABV Beer Geek Nation: A Beer Advocate: B+ Rate Beer: 96/100 The Kaiser once said, “Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world.” If the Kaiser and his significant other had tipped this bottle, we’d all be “sprechenden Deutsch!” We took all that is good in a traditional Oktoberfest – gorgeous, deep copper sheen, massive malty backbone and spicy, floral, pungent noble hops – then intensified each into this, an Imperial Oktoberfest. Beer Geek Nation Beer Review: Avery New World Porter

Located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Avery Brewing Company has developed a variety of quality craft beers since 1993. Their lineup now includes around twenty styles with seasonal, year round, collaboration and special series releases. New World Porter is a seasonal beer available from January to April of each year although I’ve seen six packs of it around long after April. For an American porter, the ABV is on the high side at 6.7% along with a higher IBU rating of 45 for the style. New World Porter poured a huge pillowy two finger Khaki colored head, one of the few times I’ve poured a beer like they picture on the brewers website. As typical of the style it’s a dark mahogany hue with deep ruby red around the edges of the glass. As you drink it down it leaves some wonderful ... Read More »

Beer Geek Nation Video Beer Reviews: Avery Brewing The Maharaja (Newest batch)

The Maharaja Imperial IPA Avery Brewing Beer Geek Nation: A+ Beer Advocate: A- Rate Beer: 100/100 Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, – “great” and rajan – “king”. Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley – fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. This newest Avery Dictator completes the “Dictator Series” joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom! Read More »
