Stone / Ardent / Hardywood Give Me Stout or Give Me Death | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Just as Patrick Henry once stood addressing the city of Richmond in 1775 to spur resistance against the tyrannical British Empire, 20 years ago we were stirred to join the cry for resistance against the tyrannical oppression of industrial beer. And now, the opening of our Richmond brewery is yet another shot in the salvo that has been fired on behalf of American brewing independence. If we wish to brew free, if we mean to retain our identity and preserve the privilege of access to independent craft beer, we must recognize it is a group effort. We do not stand alone. ... Stone Tangerine Express IPA | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

http://www/twitch.tv/beergeekgaming http://facebook.com/beergeeknation http://www.beergeeknation.com Tweets by beergeeknation Stone Tangerine Express IPA Stone Brewing 6.7% ABV Beer Geek Nation Rating: B This ain’t no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine purée, which brings pithy, crisp bitterness to the citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine — the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit — we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backnote (you’d likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn’t tell you it was there). We’re not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the “I want my beer to taste like fruit juice” crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold and not for kids. Read More »

Stone Enjoy By IPA – 02.14.17 Coffee & Chocolate | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

It’s not unusual to see pronouncements of “I Heart Hops,” “I Heart Chocolate” or “I Heart Coffee” throughout #socialmedia, printed on T-shirts and, natch, emblazoned on coffee cups. Over the past couple of decades we have helped add “I Freaking Heart IPAs” to that lexicon. Today, passionate people can’t imagine a world without all of the above. For this special edition, we added chocolate and coffee to make this devastatingly fresh IPA even more seductive to the palate. We humbly suggest that you use this libation to proclaim your love for someone… and we suggest that someone be you. Loving yourself is exactly what this libation is all about. Love now; remember forever. Read More »

Stone Double Bastard Bigger Longer Uncut (Best or Worst of 2016?!) | Beer Geek Nation Beer Reviews

If you aren’t capable of knowing the reality of yourself, this beer can and will take the responsibility of informing you of what you should already know. (And it you’ve lost your way in this text already and no longer are clear about what I am saying, your reading pace has exceeded your comprehension pace. Go back, slow down and ... Read More »

Stone 20th Anniversary Encore Series: 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA | Beer Geek Nation

For our 14th Anniversary Ale, we traced our inspiration to British IPAs of the 1800s, creating an imperial, nay, Emperial IPA using all-British hops, malt and yeast. We even adjusted our Southwest U.S. water to summon that ageless IPA chemistry and royal sense of place. Cheers to an Encore reign for this mighty British-by-way-of-California-West-Coast IPA. Stone Encore Series: 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. Vertical Epic 02/02/02 was not brewed “to style”. Instead, we tried to create something new. It’s triple-ish in nature, with wit character, coriander and orange peel, and has way more hops than either a Belgian triple or a Wit would. Belgian yeast was used. Belgian Strong Ale is the closest category that fits — Greg Koch, Stone Brewing CEO. In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/020202 In 2002 we began our groundbreaking, millennium-inspired series with Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale. This bumped up Belgian-style wit—made all the more alluring thanks to an ... Read More »

STONE 12TH ANNIVERSARY BITTER CHOCOLATE OATMEAL STOUT AGED IN BOURBON BARRELS | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Originally inspired by recipes of two Team Stone members, Stone 12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout became an instant classic. The onyx-hued beer also proved to be an ideal barrel-aging specimen, thanks to its rich, thick mouthfeel and chocolate-heavy flavors and aromatics. CELLAR NOTES An already magnificent beer’s mouthwatering recipe of unsweetened chocolate, flaked oats and dark-roasted malts is made even more deliciously complex care of oak barrels that previously nurtured bourbon. These amazing vessels impart oak and coconut-like flavors upfront while accentuating the silky smooth midpalate with oak vanillin notes. The finish is long and intense, with layers of chocolate and oak vanillin. You might be tempted to lick the glass for every last drop of this delectable adult confection. Read More »
