Beer Geek Nation Beer Review: Terrapin Beer Company Hopsecutioner IPA

by jeremy on September 7, 2010

Terrapin Beer Company out of Athens Georgia has added this latest brew, Hopsecutioner IPA, to their year round available beers.  At 7.2% and 78 IBU’s, Hopsecutioner firmly sets itself in the session-able category.  Let’s see how it looks, smells and tastes.

Appearance – Hazy amber copper, 2 finger head with decent lacing, usual but good looking IPA

Nose- Cut grassy maltiness, more earthy hop character here with some grapefruit from the hops also coming through.

Taste – Hits with the bitterness on the tongue but offers a more astringent bitter, and not the west coast hop citrus.  I find notes of a lemon zest HINT, but the taste steers WAY more towards flat out grapefruit bite and flavor.  The beer finishes with a malt sweetness caramel hint.  Overall, this beer is well balanced and a very drinkable east coast style IPA with a medium bodied mouth feel.  Terrapin Beer company overall doesn’t seem to be changing the game, but their beers are excellently crafted and super flavorful.  This is a great session-able IPA  Really good beer B+.
