Stone Enjoy By IPA – 02.14.17 Coffee & Chocolate | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

It’s not unusual to see pronouncements of “I Heart Hops,” “I Heart Chocolate” or “I Heart Coffee” throughout #socialmedia, printed on T-shirts and, natch, emblazoned on coffee cups. Over the past couple of decades we have helped add “I Freaking Heart IPAs” to that lexicon. Today, passionate people can’t imagine a world without all of the above. For this special edition, we added chocolate and coffee to make this devastatingly fresh IPA even more seductive to the palate. We humbly suggest that you use this libation to proclaim your love for someone… and we suggest that someone be you. Loving yourself is exactly what this libation is all about. Love now; remember forever. Read More »

Trillium IWANTTOBU DOUBLE IPA (Zero IBU Beer) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

This past August, we were fortunate to be a part of the inaugural Forever Summer Festival, hosted by The Veil at their brewery in Richmond, Virginia, where JC met owner/Head brewer, Matt Tarpey. Matt’s approach to brewing breaks from conventionalism by pushing boundaries and methodologies. IwanttoBU blends Trillium’s techniques and house character, with The Veil’s unique brewing style to create an incredibly flavorful and aromatic hop forward beer with no kettle hop additions. IwanttoBU is a 0 IBU beer with no hop additions in the kettle. A large whirlpool addition of El Dorado, Simcoe, Citra and Citra Lupulin Powder, plus a massive dry hop (4 lbs per barrel) of Citra and Simcoe. The nose is filled with notes of pine needles, citrus zest and plum. Flavors of lemongrass and citrus emerge on the palate, complimented by a dank, piney character. The beer finishes with ... Stone 20th Anniversary Encore Series: 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA | Beer Geek Nation

For our 14th Anniversary Ale, we traced our inspiration to British IPAs of the 1800s, creating an imperial, nay, Emperial IPA using all-British hops, malt and yeast. We even adjusted our Southwest U.S. water to summon that ageless IPA chemistry and royal sense of place. Cheers to an Encore reign for this mighty British-by-way-of-California-West-Coast IPA. Drakes Aroma Therapy Imperial IPA (10.2% ABV) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Aroma Therapy is the double IPA partner of Aroma Coma and Prieta. The brew takes its cues from the Coma and Prieta recipes and goes bigger — more malt, hops from both New Zealand and America — and a topping of orange blossom honey, the aromatics from which subtly underpin the hops. Read More »

Stone 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

For 20 years our passion for brewing and our obsession with hops have challenged traditional styles and expectations for beer. So it’s only fitting we commemorate this momentous occasion by crafting a liquid ode to bold brewing that satisfies your hop thirst and pays homage to our flagship San Diego brewery, located on Citracado Parkway (which itself pays homage to the citrus and avocado agricultural history of the region). “Citracado” also teases the two key ingredients of this beer. “Citra” refers both to the juicy gem of a hop and its citrusy (and tropical) aromas and flavors. “Cado” inspired us to utilize wonderful, native avocado flower honey. Combine the two and the result pours like silk and abounds with enough hops to match our excitement for reaching this 20-year milestone. We thank you sincerely for the years of support and pledge that we will, ... Read More »

Stone Mocha Imperial IPA | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Previously known as Liberty Station 2nd Anniversary Mocha IPA, now a distributed Stone brand. Clearly, style lines have been crossed. Is it half-IPA, half-stout? Not quite. It’s definitely all IPA, but it’s also the best of both styles, making this love child of a beer simply just a beautiful, pleasure-seeking meld of imperial IPA and mocha indulgence. How did we come up with this inexplicably delicious creation? Well, that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that it exists and that it’s here for you now, thanks to our deliberate disregard for brewing norms. Some things are not meant to be known, just enjoyed…thoroughly. Read More »
