Ballast Point Barmy Apricot Ale (12% ABV) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

Made with only six ingredients. Malted 2-row barley, palisade hops, orange blossom honey, White Labs California Ale Yeast, apricots and San Diego carbon filtered tap water. Low bitterness is balanced by tart apricots with a sweet but not cloying finish. Barmy Ale can be aged up to eight years with a strong honey wine character emerging if cellared. Be careful not to be the barmiest of them all. Read More »

Beer Geek Nation presents San Diego Beer Vlog: Struise Pannepot Reserva (2009) Video Beer Review

The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak. Read More »

Beer Geek Nation presents San Diego Beer Vlog: Duvel Tripel Hop 2013 (Sorachi Ace) Video Beer Review

Hops: Saaz, Styrian Golding and Sorachi Ace. Read More »

Beer Geek Nation presents San Diego Beer Vlog: Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad Video Beer Review

Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore. Read More »
