Stone Enjoy By IPA – 02.14.17 Coffee & Chocolate | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

It’s not unusual to see pronouncements of “I Heart Hops,” “I Heart Chocolate” or “I Heart Coffee” throughout #socialmedia, printed on T-shirts and, natch, emblazoned on coffee cups. Over the past couple of decades we have helped add “I Freaking Heart IPAs” to that lexicon. Today, passionate people can’t imagine a world without all of the above. For this special edition, we added chocolate and coffee to make this devastatingly fresh IPA even more seductive to the palate. We humbly suggest that you use this libation to proclaim your love for someone… and we suggest that someone be you. Loving yourself is exactly what this libation is all about. Love now; remember forever. Read More »

He’Brew Jewbelation 20th Anniversary Ale (16.8% ABV) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

“Score” is an ancient word for 20. 4 score from Gettysburg, plus Psalm 90 and MLK’s “I Have a Dream”. 20 Years of Shmaltz, one helluva Score, officially complete! About the Fugees 1996 hit The Score, Lauryn Hill said, “It’s like a hip hop version of Tommy.” At age 20, Bette Midler who later played the Acid Queen in the 1st stage show of Tommy, debuted on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof, originally considered “too Jewish” for mainstream audiences. 20 is the Biblical age of maturity, when Jewish Priests could work in the sacred Temple. 20 years after the naked Starman icon 1st appeared on 2112, Rush released their best that’s-what-he-said lyric in ‘96: “I’ve got a pantheon of animals in a pagan soul / Vishnu & Gaia, Aztec & Maya / Dance around my totem pole.” ’96: the Sex Pistols 20th anniv ... Tusk & Grain Brandy Barrel Aged Coffee Porter (Best of 2016?) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

This beer is one part of the duality that comprises our feature on coffee beer. We layered fruit notes on fruit notes, aging our imperial porter in brandy barrels and adding Kenyan “karagoto” coffee from Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. Vanilla, chocolate, blackberry, and black currant aromas explode, leaving a multi-faceted beer setting itself apart from the coffee beer paradigm. Complex, yet smooth on the finish, let this coffee beer enow you with its richness and be the nightcap you’re looking for. Read More »

Oskar Blues Rum Barrel-Aged Death By Coconut | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

“This was a complete no brainer for a barrel aged beer,” said Longmont Cellar Manager Dennis McShea. “Regular DBC takes the palate to a different place from the typical beer world of malt and hops. When you think of coconut, you think tropical and when you think tropical, you think rum. If that wasn’t decadent enough, the beer already has Cholaca, a drink derived from cacao, to top it off. To sum it up we wanted a beer that sends your palate on vacation.” Read More »

Trillium IWANTTOBU DOUBLE IPA (Zero IBU Beer) | Beer Geek Nation Craft Beer Reviews

This past August, we were fortunate to be a part of the inaugural Forever Summer Festival, hosted by The Veil at their brewery in Richmond, Virginia, where JC met owner/Head brewer, Matt Tarpey. Matt’s approach to brewing breaks from conventionalism by pushing boundaries and methodologies. IwanttoBU blends Trillium’s techniques and house character, with The Veil’s unique brewing style to create an incredibly flavorful and aromatic hop forward beer with no kettle hop additions. IwanttoBU is a 0 IBU beer with no hop additions in the kettle. A large whirlpool addition of El Dorado, Simcoe, Citra and Citra Lupulin Powder, plus a massive dry hop (4 lbs per barrel) of Citra and Simcoe. The nose is filled with notes of pine needles, citrus zest and plum. Flavors of lemongrass and citrus emerge on the palate, complimented by a dank, piney character. The beer finishes with ...
